Something Worthwhile!
I found how to use Voki in my class. What a versatile, valid and engaging tool for language learning.

RSS Feeds
I have searched through my favourites and NONE of my favourite sites had the RSS button! So I ended up adding the 2 I selected by copying the URL and clicking on Add a Subscription.
I chose the puzzle maker sites as they are handy to have access to.

Navigating a Blog In Arabic
Woooooh! I tried to navigate around Khaled's blog - wow I found it difficult as the writing as in a script and I couldnt look for cognates! The only thing which was familiar was the numbers. When I left a comment, the cursor was freaking me out - it was all back to front. I was frantically searching for anything using Roman lettering but not much luck. When I left a comment I guessed which button to press to publish the comment, I luckily guessed the right one (thinking it would be back to front) and the type in the code was displayed (to say you're not a robot) then I felt relief.
It was an experience!

Tasks for Voki
This is where I get stuck. I can access all these things however I find it really difficult to come up with ways to use them. I am really looking forward to the next few weeks with this PD as I am NOT creative or good at coming up with ways to use ICT eg Voki, Blogs or other things with students. I feel I cant come up with ideas which are valid nor useful - by that I also automatically factor in the time value for researching, designing and producing tasks and instructions etc.
At my school it is also quite difficult to access computer labs. I have 5 computers at the back of my room which I dont utilise enough or have any idea really how to use more AND more effectively (which I would love to).
I found it really good to hear other people's ideas on how to use the Voki in the classroom. Unfortunately I first thought they would be very limited in their use as a one dimensional speaking task (and this is what I mean, I can see some use of the technology but need some forum where I can obtain other ideas). When Claire spoke about a reading task eg reading cards describing the Voki and the Ls designing the Voki based on the TL description, I thought of course! Then I was thinking after that task the Ls could write their own descriptions of a Voki then pass them on to other Ls to make as another IT task. Thats about all I can come up with ATM for the Voki so Im open to ANY SUGESTIONS!!

I chose this video as I crave Martabak especially sweet Martabak!! OMG my fav is butter, sugar and peanuts or butter AND Nutella. This video fits into my org focus ATM as we are looking at the market place with a focus on fruit and vege stalls but Nutella used to be nuts (a sort of fruit) and sugar sort of grows on trees.... so in my Martabak crazed mind its a great fit. I really miss the Martabak sellers and the sweet, sweet aromas mmmmmm, Indo Martabak. I DO NOT recommend Martabak (sweet) for those on a diet or those who are scared of fat and sugar!!
Sweet Martabak is like a big, fat, fluffy pancake - and its delicious! Generally there are a few fillings to chose from, peanuts, Nutella, sugar, cheese (ewww), honey or others. Last time I was in Indonesia I was buying them for RP300 ea (approx 30 cents) Be careful watching the video, your cholesterol level may fly off the chart - beware.

Goals for 23 Things
My main goal I have for this PD is learning about ICT language tasks for use in the classroom - ones already tried and tested and obtaining resources especially sites and links which are useful in lower school.
Its all good and well when you have a new idea (esp ICT) and you want to get it started but I find I spend FAR TOO MUCH TIME trying to find the right text or website. I work a lot and have recently said (in my seventh year of teaching at my school) enough is enough, I have a life and a young family and I will not put my work above my family any more. I could spend all weekend (and I did) searching for resources online and quite often coming up with nothing that I was happy with.
So I am hoping this PD will not only help me with ideas, resources, tasks and texts (or links to info) but also give me the on-going motivation to keep on with what I do want to do. I am also hoping this PD will be a resource sharing vehicle for ICT tasks which are valid and workable.
I will be working on my 23 Things PD "homework" on the weekends. This is the only time I have free to do "extra things" on top of my already horrendous workload (which Im sure all language teachers have).
